Home to School Transport

Eligibility – Under 16 Transport to School

Children aged 4 to 16 are eligible for free home to school travel support if they live in Surrey and:

  • They attend their nearest qualify school which is three miles from their home (for children over 8) measured by the shortest walking route (accompanied by an adult as necessary); or
  • They are aged 11 and over and are entitled to free school meals or their families receive the maximum Working Tax Credit. These children will qualify for help with travel to one of their three nearest qualifying schools where they live between two miles (measured by the shortest walking route) and six miles (measured by the shortest road route) from the school; or
  • They are aged 11 and over and are entitled to free school meals or their families receive the maximum Working Tax Credit, and they attend the nearest school based on religion or belief which is more than two miles (measured by the shortest walking route) and not more than 15 miles (measured by the shortest road route) from the home address.

Applications Processed During the Normal Admissions Round

Surrey’s Admissions and Transport team automatically assesses home to school transport for each child after the initial allocation of school places.  They will write to parents by the end of April in the year of admission if their child is entitled to free transport.

The legal responsibility for ensuring a child’s attendance at school rests with the child’s parent. Students must always carry their passes with them as periodic checks are made of those travelling by this means.

The good behaviour of students on home to school transport is the responsibility of parents.  If your child persistently misbehaves on a school bus then the Local Education Authority reserves the right to withdraw the transport provision. It would also support the Principal’s decision to withdraw the transport provision for disciplinary reasons relating to the use of that transport. If transport provision is withdrawn for any period of time it remains the parents’ responsibility to get the child to and from school.

Cycles

Students are permitted to bring their cycles into College and are advised to wear a helmet and store their cycles locked in the racks provided between F Block and the 6th Form Centre and to the rear of Barossa Gym.  These cycle rack areas are covered by CCTV.  The cycles must be kept in a road worthy condition with two working brakes and a rear reflector.  The College cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage and parents are therefore advised to insure cycles.

Route planners

Google maps allows users to create maps and directions for travel on foot, by bike, in a car or on public transport.

We are Cycling UK provides a journey planner specifically for cyclists

Cycle Streets is a UK-wide cycle journey planner system, which lets you plan routes from A to B by bike. It is designed by cyclists, for cyclists, and caters for the needs of both confident and less confident cyclists.
