Year 7 Cricket vs Wavell (Lost by 8 Runs)

The Year 7 Cricket team started their season last Wednesday 5 June 2013 against Wavell school.

The boys have been training hard since the start of term to get themselves ready for this game. We started fairly well with some good bowling from Ubaid-Ulla Kayani and the boys were fielding well. Adam Carter came on to bowl and managed to slow the run rate down with some excellent line and length deliveries. Unfortunately we gave away quite a few extras when fielding and Wavell ended up with a score of 88 off 16 overs.

We went out to bat and Jacob Nin and Ubaid started well pushing the ball around. Wavell brought on a very good bowler who started to slow the run rate down for us and we were soon having to start chasing the game. Scott Heard went into bat at number 4 and started to push the run rate along with some fine cricket shots.

Needing 17 off the last over to win the boys unfortunately fell just short of their target to lose out narrowly.

I feel the boys have learnt a good lesson with regards to giving away extras as it would have made a big difference to the overall outcome.

Team: Kieran Brown, Ubaid Kayani, Oli Ross, Luke Byrne, Connor Pearson, Adam Carter, Zack Barkham, Scott Heard, Alex Foreman, Marcus Smith and Jacob Nin

Man of the match: Scott Heard, good all round performance behind the stumps and batting.

The boys have upcoming fixtures against Fernhill, Tomlinscote and Ash Manor.
