Year 10 Football vs Fernhill
Collingwood beat Fernhill 4-2 to reach the District Cup Final.
On Monday 18 March the Year 10 boys’ football team travelled to Fernhill School to play in the District Cup semi-final. The winners of the game would have the honour of playing the final at Aldershot Town so both teams were eager to be victorious despite the horrendous weather conditions!
The game was one of two halves as the pitch at Fernhill had quite a big slope. We started slowly and before long found ourselves 2-0 down and fighting to stay in the game. We managed to score a goal just before half time through Tom Blackburn to make the score 2-1. The second half started with the rain still streaming down and the pitch becoming almost unplayable. The boys second half performance was one of the best I have seen with sheer determination from all of them to try and win the game. We had plenty of chances in the second half but didn’t manage to find the back of the net and I was starting to think it wasn’t going to be our day when we were still 2-1 down with only 8 minutes to play. We finally managed to equalise through the fortune of an own goal and then the boys went on to win the game in fantastic style with two late goals from Sam Hanger and a superb solo effort from Callum Hawthorne.
The boys now march on to the final on Wednesday 24 April at the EBB stadium to face the winners of All Hallows against Tomlinscote. Please come out and support the boys on this momentous occasion for them all.
