Year 10 Girls Reach County Badminton Final

A group of Year 10 girls attended the final of the County Badminton tournament.

On Tuesday 12 February I took five Year 10 girls to the Key Stage 4 final of the County Badminton tournament at Guildford Spectrum.  The team including Katie Price 10K, Rianna Meme 10G, Ellie Bolton 10K, India Laslett 10K and Katya Hall 10G had done tremendously well to reach this stage of the competition as Collingwood had not been this far in a number of years.

The teams were split into two groups of three with Collingwood placed in the same group as Weydon and Sunbury Manor school.  We started against Weydon and unfortunately lost that game and then moved onto Sunbury Manor where the girls won a tense match 3-2.  We went through to play against Therfield School in the semi-final who were a very strong team consisting of a couple of Surrey players.  The girls acquitted themselves well against them but unfortunately came away on the losing side.  We then went into a play off for third and fourth place against Weydon School once again.  The girls played a lot better against them second time round but came away finishing fourth overall out of six on the day.

The girls played fantastically well throughout the competition and overall finished fourth out of roughly 40 schools that entered the Surrey competition which is a fantastic achievement and something that they should be very proud of.  Luckily for me they are all Year 10 students so they can come back even stronger in next year’s competition!

Well done!
