Victory in the Cup

Year 11 Rugby success ...

The Year 11 Rugby team travelled away to play Weydon on Thursday, 24th March. Once again, there were some last minute drop outs and the boys pulled together and played with 13 men.

This was always going to be a tough game, especially when Weydon were playing with an extra man. Collingwood started strong and took the early score via Rory Scott smashing over for a try in the far corner. Minutes later, Collingwood were, again, near the Weydon try line but their defence held strong for several minutes until Jamie Ferris took the ball from the back of a ruck and calmly slot a drop goal to extend the lead to 8 points.

Weydon were never going to just roll over and played well in the later part of the half, scoring and converting twice to take the score to 14-8 at the break. Collingwood gathered their thoughts and the talk from captain Ben Bowen helped the boys to regroup. Both teams came out strong with good running rugby. Collingwood had the upper hand and Ali Bradley managed to crash over the line to bring the score to 14-15 and only 12 minutes to go.

The game could have gone either way, with mistakes being made by both sides. After some loose play by Collingwood, Connor McMillan picked up the scraps and scored a fantastic individual try beating 5 players in the process. The score was 14-20 with 5 minutes to play. After some more physical contacts and several scrummages Collingwood kicked the ball out of play.

Final score 14-20 to Collingwood.Once again, a big thanks to the boys for pulling together - especially to Elliott Harvey who played out of position as flanker and won lots of ball in the loose.
