Sixth Form Students Complete London to Brighton Cycle Ride
Harry Whelan and Will Vasey (Year 12) complete gruelling cycle ride for Cancer Research UK.
In the early hours of last Sunday 25 September 2016, my brother, Harry Whelan (12JR) and his friend Will Vasey (12PD) embarked on a 62 mile cycle from London to Brighton in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Will's Dad was on the early shift, he made sure that they were at the start point at Clapham Common by 6.00am! (Thanks Mr Vasey). Meanwhile, my Dad and I travelled by car to Brighton, not only to pick them up but I wanted to see them cross that finish line, after all their hard work and training.
They found the hardest part of the ride to be the climb to Ditchling Beacon but they did manage to get to the top...........Just!!!!
At last, 6 hours, 22 minutes later, they both flew across the finish line with joy, pride and sheer fatigue!
Whilst they were completing this for a great cause they also had plenty of fun on the way and expressed a sincere desire to repeat these efforts again next year, as it is such a worthy cause.
To date, they have raised just over £700 in sponsorship on their Just Giving page and a special thanks needs to be passed on to all the people who have given so generously.
I think these guys deserve a special mention for their valiant efforts and hopefully I will be able to do it with them next year, which I am really looking forward to.
Awesome Effort Guys - I'm really proud of you!
