Sixth Former's Gymnastics Success

Year 12 student, Ben Knapton, and his National Junior Men’s gymnastics team win gold at the Southern TeamGym Qualifiers.

On Sunday 16 March Year 12 student, Ben Knapton, and his National Junior Men’s gymnastics team won gold at the Southern TeamGym Qualifiers (Bracknell Leisure Centre).

Competing against teams such as Pinewood, Basingstoke and Portsmouth, the ‘Bracknell Kites’ convincingly took the gold medal with a score of 41.55, beating second place Hawth by over 3 marks.

TeamGym comprises of three pieces of apparatus: a group floor display, consecutive trampette/vault runs and consecutive tumble runs.  As well as the general success, personal apparatus records were also set.  The team achieved their highest ever scores on all three apparatus pieces and achieved the highest execution score on trampette through the entire event.

Having also successfully achieved the national qualifying score, Ben and the team will now compete in the British Finals in Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 24 May.
