Run for the Stars
Teachers to run Reading Half-Marathon for the Shooting Star CHASE charity.
For the past 5 months Mr Cleary, Mr Andrews, Mrs Wiles and Ms Cox have been in training to run the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 17 March.
We decided to raise money for a charity called Shooting Star CHASE which supports local families with a child or teenager not expected to reach their 19th birthday.
Shooting Star CHASE last year helped the son of a dear colleague and friend of ours, who was sick and passed away just after his 1st birthday in August 2012. They shared the good times and helped him, his parents, his older sister and his wider family through the tough times with practical, nursing and emotional support, free of charge. However, with no guaranteed Government funding, Shooting Star CHASE must raise £23,000 a day to continue their vital service!!!
The training has been somewhat mixed for some of the staff. Ms Cox has really been pounding the concrete and is now up to 12 miles at a time.
The other three staff members have been training intermittently (that’s the best way to describe it!) and are less hopeful about finishing let alone posting a reasonable time. That being said all of the staff are looking to try and finish in a time of around two hours.
The race runs around the streets of Reading and finishes at the Madejski Stadium. It has been whispered in the PE Department that it’s the only chance the two male teachers have of ever setting foot on a Premiership football pitch. So if you are not up to anything and want to support them by cheering them on, throwing them a drink or providing those that haven’t trained with oxygen supplies they will really appreciate it on 17 March.
Please dig deep and donate what you can!
