Another Potential Olympian?

Tanith (Year 8) has risen to fame in the world of Junior Short Track Speed Skating over the past few years.

Skating for Aldwich Short Track club based out of Guildford she has made rapid improvement over the past couple of years showing her to be a potential Winter Olympian of the future. She is one of the highest ranked girls in her classification in the country and ranked 8th from all of the European countries.  With many of her rivals older than her this is no mean feat.

Tanith regularly has to travel overseas to compete and has performed with incredible promise in each event.  In one of the most recent ones in Oberstdorf, Germany, she beat girls from the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg to win the 333 m event, 500 m event and the semi of the 777 m event to win her novice girls category overall.

Personal records:

222 m                     27.128                      24/04/11                 Gent BEL Easter Cup
333 m                     37.008                      06/08/11                 Chamonix FRA 30st Trophée Leon Quaglia
500 m                     55.330                      14/04/12                 Turnhout BEL Closing Games (Golden Sun)
777 m                     1:26.520                   24/02/12                 Leeuwarden NED  Star Class - Friesland Cup
1000 m                   1:55.973                   13/10/12                 Turnhout BEL International Opening Games

Her personal bests and the competitions she has achieved them in demonstrate the level of commitment this young lady shows and the amount of support she receives from her family in order to achieve her dream. We are sure here at Collingwood that the Junior Olympics beckon and hopefully one day she will be a fully fledged member of team GB.  Go Tanith!
