Autodesk Donate £1500 Sponsorship
Collingwood receives sponsorship for green power racing team.
International CAD software giant Autodesk has recently formed a partnership with Collingwood College’s green power electric racing car team and the Design and Technology Department.
Autodesk has kindly sponsored the College an amazing £1500 for development of our 2nd electric green power car which we aim to have running alongside the current car for the 2013 season.
Due to the popularity of the first car, and the huge amount of interest from students wanting a place on the team, we had long aimed to develop and enter a second car to allow more students to participate in the green power program. Autodesk has made this financially viable and the Department is extremely grateful to Autodesk for providing this opportunity.
In addition to sponsoring the electric car, Autodesk has also provided us with thousands of pounds worth of their latest 2012 CAD software suite (comprising Inventor 3D CAD modelling as well as architecture, graphics, mechanical and 3D rendering software packages) which will be used throughout the Design and Technology Department).
Also, thanks to Autodesk we have been able to set up a Robotics Club with the fantastic VEX robotics kits which they have donated to the College – we already have a budding group of Years 7 and 8 students who are experimenting with the kits and aiming to build a robot to compete nationally in the 2013 VEX Robotics competition.
Mathew Bell from Autodesk visited Collingwood on Monday 23 May to present us with our cheque and to chat to the green power race team about the progress we have made.
Previously, our green power team had put together a ‘Dragons Den’ style pitch to Mathew on our first meeting with Autodesk – demonstrating and explaining how we already use the company’s software to develop our cars and the hard work that goes into managing a racing team – even at school level!
Mathew has commented on how professional and business-like the students were and how it was almost like having a meeting with his adult colleagues at Autodesk!
Autodesk are keen to foster a permanent relationship with Collingwood College – they aim to visit us at our race day events and have said they will be looking at ways they can support the College even more in future.
