15 talented students attended the ‘Girls in STEM’ event at INEOS Headquarters on Friday 8 March, on International Women’s Day. The students received talks from great female role models, including English sailor Annie Lush and round-the-world sailor Dee Caffari MBE, to demonstrate what can be achieved by a female in a competitive industrial environment. The aim of the event was to aspire and engage girls in STEM careers and to showcase the world of opportunities for the next generation.
There were a range of activities throughout the day including an inspiration zone, which allowed the students to get real life hands-on experiences of practical science and technology activities. Our students demonstrated their thinking and creative skills whilst attempting a task for BT by product designing, where they were complimented for the best product designs for the day.
The students also attended a workshop on ‘My Skills My Life’ where they were introduced to the world of STEM careers and to assess their own personal skills. Some of our students showed the courage and enthusiasm by taking part in a live BBC interview. The students were great ambassadors for the school.
