Year 9 Boys Win District 6-a-Side

Collingwood boys beat Gordon's 2-0 in final of district tournament.

On Wednesday 23 January, in freezing conditions, the Year 9 footballers headed off to Winston Churchill to take part in a district 6-a-side tournament.  There were 11 schools in total and teams were split into two pools.  Pool 1 included Woking High, Kings, Hoe Valley, SJB and Heathside.  Collingwood were in Pool 2 alongside Salesian, Winston Churchill, Fullbrook, Gordon’s and BDB with the top 2 from each pool qualifying for the semi-finals.

The boys got off to a steady start and drew their first two games against Gordon’s and Winston, however they really found their form in the remaining pool matches and played some great football in defeating BDB, Fullbrook and then finally Salesian. This meant we qualified for the semi-finals where we played SJB.  After going a goal down inside 2 minutes the boys quickly turned the match around with some lovely one touch football and deservedly won 2-1.

In the final they faced Gordon’s which was a repeat of the first pool match, however the boys raised the tempo significantly and dominated throughout finally winning 2-0 with two stunning goals.  Well done boys!!
