Year 11 Prom, Transition Arrangements for Year 6 Students and Other End-of-term Activities

We have been waiting for government guidance on a number of College-related events including the Year 11 Prom and transition arrangements for Year 6 students joining us in September.  On Friday we heard that this guidance is expected around Monday 17 May.  Below is an extract from the Local Authority which I hope clarifies the current position:

DfE Guidance regarding transition days, parents’ evenings, school summer activities, including school proms, etc.

We have been advised that DfE guidance is due to be published in mid-May in line with the next road-map step relating to schools. This should include details on transition days, parents’ evenings, school summer activities, school proms, etc.  The update states that schools should await further guidance before undertaking any extensive planning of activities.  It is expected that Q&A will also be provided which will assist in explaining arrangements for parents and carers.’

When we have received this guidance, I will confirm our plans for our Year 11 Prom and, for those of you who have younger siblings coming to us in September, arrangements for Year 6 transition this year.

We are very keen to see what the guidance allows us to do and whether we can hold face-to-face events, which is our preference, however we will only do this if the guidance permits this, and we are absolutely sure that it will be safe to do so.

Dates for your Diary

A reminder that we will have two early closures on Thursday 13 May and Tuesday 25 May.  Students will be set work to be completed at home at these times.

Year 7 Numbers for September

I am very pleased to inform you that we are currently full for September with a long waiting list!  The total number of preferences has increased year-on-year for the last eight years and, indeed, a number of our year groups are now at capacity.  This situation is due to the positive reputation of the College in Surrey Heath and a tribute to the hard work of our outstanding staff.  Our students continue to be the best ambassadors for the reputation of the College, and they deserve much credit for their positive, hard-working and co-operative attitude in College, leading to consistently strong examination results, and the way they represent us in the local community.  I also know that ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendations from parents significantly impact on prospective parent choices and therefore I would like to thank you for your support for us.  Not only are these numbers good for the morale of all those of us connected with Collingwood but it also has a very positive impact on our finances which means we can invest more in our site - details of our site improvement plans, to be completed over the summer holidays, to follow shortly!
