Status Racing Qualifies for Greenpower Final!

Collingwood's greenpower team, Status Racing, has qualified for the International Final at Rockingham Motor Speedway with both MK1 and MK2 cars.

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Status Racing team, with two consecutive weekend races at Bedford Autodrome and Dunsfold (the Top Gear Test Track!), as well as displaying the car at the Collingwood awards evening last Tuesday.

The team races in 90 minute endurance races, on a single set of 12 v regulation batteries in the Greenpower F24 series.  From June to September, we enter four regional heats, with the aim of completing the highest mileage in the two 90 minute races on the day.

At the end of the regional heats, the highest mileage from every team is calculated and the top 75 ranking cars from the season are invited for the IET F24 International Final, held this year for the first time at Rockingham.

On Sunday 13 September, the team travelled up to Bedford for the Eastern Regional Heat.  After the incredibly early start (for the 7.30am arrival at the track..!) the team quickly prepared the cars for the race.  We performed solidly throughout both Race 1 and Race 2, finishing 14th in MK2 and 17th in MK1.  Although a good result, we knew that this should be bettered for Dunsfold.

The following Sunday (after a slightly later start!) the team reassembled for our last heat of the season.  Determined to beat the previous week’s result the team was enthusiastic and ready to race!  We performed incredibly in the race with MK2 finishing 6th!  In the five years of racing at Dunsfold, this is not only our best ever placing in the heat but also was our highest mileage with 35 miles covered over the 90 minute race.  To add to the joy of the day, the team was awarded with not one, but two awards.  The first is a prestigious award, sponsored by Siemens named the Siemens Digital Award.  The judges were incredibly impressed with the advanced electronic and telemetry system which had been implemented into the MK2 car.  The second award was for our in-depth portfolio, showing the judges the design and construction processes, as well as the methods in which we finance the team.

On Monday we received the news we had been waiting for… not only had we qualified for the International Final with both of our cars for the third consecutive season, but we had qualified in 34th and 37th position (compared to 51st and 54th last season!)  This is a massive achievement for the team and has shown that our modifications to the cars this year have been a huge success!

I would like to thank all of the parents who came to the events over the last few weeks in support of the team, all of our sponsors who make running this team possible and most of all to Mr Winter; who dedicates so much of his time to make it possible to build and race the cars.

We look forward to the International Final at Rockingham Motor Speedway on Sunday 11 October and if you are interested in following our progress in the build-up, and at the final, check out our social media feeds:
