Parental engagement

Strong partnerships between school and home are at the heart of a successful education. We recognise that when parents and carers are actively engaged in their child’s school life, students are more likely to attend regularly, behave positively, and achieve their full potential.

Parental support plays a vital role in reinforcing the values and expectations that underpin a thriving learning environment. When families and staff work together, students benefit from a consistent message about the importance of commitment, responsibility, and respect - both in and out of the classroom.

This page outlines the ways we foster meaningful engagement with parents and carers, from regular communication and collaborative events to targeted support and shared strategies. Together, we create a community where every student is encouraged, supported, and set up to succeed.

Clear and consistent communication

We keep parents and carers updated through weekly newsletters, regular posts on our dedicated parent portal, and prompt responses to queries. This ensures families stay well-informed about their child’s progress, attendance, and wellbeing.

Parent events and workshops

Throughout the year, we host parents' evenings for all year groups and workshops on topics such as supporting learning at home, understanding behaviour expectations, and promoting positive mental health. These sessions help parents feel confident and equipped to support their child’s development.

Celebrating success together

We actively involve parents in recognising student achievements - whether it’s excellent attendance, positive behaviour, or academic milestones. Celebratory events and awards evenings are opportunities to share in students’ successes and build a sense of community.

Listening to parent voice

We value feedback and regularly invite parents to share their views through surveys, forums, and other means. This helps us shape our approach and ensure we’re meeting the needs of our families.

Inclusive and accessible support

Our pastoral team works closely with families who may need additional support, offering guidance and practical help. We also ensure that communication is accessible to all, with translation services and inclusive practices in place.

Community and connection

From school performances and sports events to involvement with our parent teacher association, Collingwood College Friends Association, we create regular chances for parents to be part of College life. These moments strengthen the bond between home and school and reinforce our shared commitment to student success.
