Mathematics
Our Mathematics curriculum is designed to develop confident, resilient, and curious learners who can think logically, solve problems creatively, and apply mathematical reasoning in real-world contexts. We aim to foster a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and an appreciation of the subject’s power and beauty.
We are committed to an inclusive and ambitious curriculum that supports all students - regardless of starting point - to achieve mastery in mathematics. Through a carefully sequenced programme of study, students build fluency, develop reasoning skills, and become proficient problem-solvers.
By the end of Key Stage 4, students will be able to:
- Recall and apply mathematical knowledge with accuracy and efficiency
- Reason mathematically by following logical arguments and justifying conclusions
- Solve problems by applying mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine contexts
- Communicate mathematical ideas clearly using appropriate notation and vocabulary
- Make connections between different areas of mathematics and apply them in real-life situations
Our intent is to equip students with the numeracy skills, analytical thinking, and confidence they need to succeed in further education, employment, and everyday life.
Curriculum overview
Key Stage 3
Students build strong foundations in number, algebra, geometry, statistics, and ratio through a coherent and connected curriculum.
Year 7 topics:
- Number
- Algebra
- Proportion
- Geometry and measure
- Probability
Year 8 topics:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio and proportion
- Geometry and measure
- Probability and statistics
Key Stage 4
Students follow the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics specification.
Topics include:
- Number: Calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and standard form
- Algebra: Expressions, equations, graphs, and sequences
- Ratio, proportion, and rates of change
- Geometry and measures: Angles, shapes, trigonometry, and vectors
- Statistics and probability
Students are assessed through three terminal exams at the end of Year 11, with regular formative assessments throughout the course to monitor progress and target support.
Courses offered

Enrichment opportunities
Our enrichment programme in Mathematics is designed to challenge, inspire, and support students beyond the classroom. Activities include:
- Maths Challenge competitions: Participation in UKMT Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Maths Challenges
- Puzzle and problem-solving club: Weekly sessions exploring logic puzzles, strategy games, and mathematical investigations
- STEM enrichment: Cross-curricular projects linking maths with science, technology, and engineering
- Maths in the real world: Workshops and guest speakers exploring careers and applications of mathematics in finance, engineering, and data science
- Targeted support and masterclasses: Intervention and extension sessions to support all learners, including those aiming for top GCSE grades
These opportunities aim to build mathematical confidence, curiosity, and a sense of achievement.
