Physical Education
Physical Education is a dynamic and engaging subject that combines theoretical knowledge with practical performance. What will you study?
Students follow the AQA A Level Physical Education specification, which includes:
Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport
- Applied anatomy and physiology

Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport
- Exercise physiology and biomechanics
- Sport psychology

Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in one sport and written analysis of performance
Assessment
Assessment is divided into two written exams and one practical component:
- Paper 1: 2 hours – 35% of A Level
- Paper 2: 2 hours – 35% of A Level
- Non-exam assessment: Practical performance and analysis – 30% of A Level
Entry requirements
To study Physical Education, students should have:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9–4 (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics, and Science
- If taken, GCSE PE is beneficial
- Students should be actively participating in at least one sport outside of school
