Work experience
Gaining real-world experience is a valuable part of Sixth Form life, and all Year 12 students are encouraged to take part in a meaningful work experience placement. Whether you're planning to apply for university, an apprenticeship, or employment, work experience can help you develop essential skills, explore career interests, and strengthen future applications.
Taking ownership of the process
In Year 12, students are encouraged to take full ownership of their work experience journey. This means identifying areas of interest, researching opportunities, and arranging their own placements—just as they would in the world of work. This approach helps build independence, confidence, and initiative, all of which are highly valued by universities and employers.
Guidance and preparation
Although students lead the process, guidance is available to help them prepare. The Sixth Form team offers advice on how to approach employers, write professional emails, and make the most of their placement. Resources are also provided to help students reflect on their experience and link it to their future goals.
Work experience typically takes place during the autumn term of Year 12, and students are encouraged to find placements that align with their interests or aspirations. Whether it’s a week in a hospital, a local business, a creative agency, or a school, every placement offers valuable insight and learning.
